In 2011 my wife and I had a holiday in China. I was blown away by the culture and history. When I returned, I attempted to read “The Romance of the Three Kingdoms”, acclaimed as one of the four great novels of classical Chinese literature. It is enthralling but also quite daunting with its 120 chapters, hundreds of characters and 800,000 word count! I looked around for an English novelisation of it but couldn’t find any. So, after having a lifetime love of literature, I decided my first novel should be to write one, trying at the same time to make it a little more accessible to a Western audience.

I’m a retired secondary school teacher of English and I live in Staffordshire with my wife. When I’m not writing, you can find me volunteering at the local library, taking part in a reading group or a poetry group, and I’m a proud member of the Lichfield Poets. And when I’m not doing any of that, I’m sure to be at Villa Park.

See my books page for more information on all my novels.

I have always dabbled in writing poetry, but now I’m retired I have the freedom to take it more seriously. I entered some poetry competitions and won best newcomer prize in the West Midlands Poetry on Loan competition. Encouraged, I became a member of the Lichfield Poets, and since then I have performed my poetry at various events including festivals in Lichfield, Wolverhampton and Rugby.
